These Apple Rose Cinnamon Buns are not only deliciously good but also a small piece of art. And the best thing is, that despite their beautiful appearance, they are really easy to make. The biggest challenge is to have enough patience, to leave the dough and buns to rise. Or maybe the real challenge is not to eat too many… Enjoy!

Recipe

You will need:

Dough:
• 50 g fresh yeast
• 5 dl milk
• 1 tbsp cinnamon
• 1 1/2 dl caster sugar
• 125 g butter (room temperature)
• 1 egg
• ½ tsp salt
• 11-12 dl all purpose flour

Filling
• 175 g butter (room temperature)
• 1 1/2 g cane sugar
• 1 tbsp cinnamon

Roses:
• 6 appels
• 3/4 dl lemon juice
• 75 g unsalted butter, melted
• 1 ½ dl cane sugar

Decoration:
• Powder sugar

How to:

Dough:

  1. Crumble the yeast into a bowl of a stand mixer.
  2. Heat the milk, till it gets finger-warm.
  3. Mix a little bit of the milk with yeast and make sure that the yeast is dissolved.
  4. Add the rest of the milk, cardamom, sugar, egg and half of the flour.
  5. Knead the dough, using the dough hook for the stand mixer, for a couple of minutes.
  6. Add butter and the rest of the flour and knead the dough for another 6-8 minutes.
  7. Add salt and knead one last minute. Let the dough rest for 45-60 minutes.

Filling:

  1. Mix butter, cane suger and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.

Roses:

  1.  Cut the apple into halves and slice thin lengthwise slices.
  2. In a large microwave bowl, add apple slices and lemon juice, mix well.
  3. In a small bowl, mix caster sugar and melted butter together. Then add to the apple slices, mix to coat.
  4. Microwave for about 3-4 minutes or until the apple slices are soft.

Buns:

  1. Divide the dough into two on a floured table.
  2. Roll out each portion into a large rectangle.
  3. Spread with half of the filling.
  4. Cut 3 cm long stripes and place apple slices on the top side of the length. Overlap the slices.
  5. Roll into a bun and leave to rise on a baking tray covered with baking paper.
  6. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  7. Cover with a cloth and leave to rise for 60 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 200°.
  9. Bake in the middel part of the oven for about 10 minutes or until the buns are golden.
  10. Decorate with powder suger befor serving.

Tip!

Use the same dough and filling for classic cinnamon buns.
