For us, there is nothing that tastes more of summer than Grandma’s elderflower lemonade.

Every year, the children’s grandmother usually gives us a couple of bottles of delicious elderflower lemonade. And every year, one can hear the disappointment when the refrigerator door is slammed and a family member realize that BOTH bottles have been emptied. – It is actually quite fascinating how quickly we’re able to consume all the lemonade!

One year, I even hid one of the bottles but somehow, someone (probably Nicolas, as he is an expert at finding lost things around the house) found it, and miraculously all the lemonade was yet again gone.

But all this was before we moved to our new house. Now we are the lucky owners of our very own elder trees, and it’s therefor super easy to make our own lemonade. Since the kids know how good it tastes, they love to help out and they make sure that we make lots of bottles, so that we won’t run out – at least not right away.

I guess I don’t need to tell where I got the recipe from…

Recipe

You will need:

• 20 large flowers from elderflower bunches
• 500 g cane sugar
• 30 g citric acid
• 2-3 organic lemons
• 1,5 l water
• 1 teaspoon of atamon

Tip!

The lemonade also tastes really good varm with a slice of lemon.

How to:

  1. Shake the flowers so that there are no small insects on them.
  2. Place them in a large saucepan.
  3. Cut the lemons into slices and place them in the saucepan along with the elderflowers.
  4. Dissolve cane sugar and citric acid in 1,5 liters of boiling water. Pour it over the elderflowers.
  5. Cover the bowl with a lid and leave in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
  6. Sift the juice through a juice cloth or a strainer. Pour into cleaned scalded and Atamon-rinsed bottles.
  7. Mix the juice with water 1:4 and preferably lots of ice cubes.
