Chili Con Carne with Chocolate might sound a little bit strange – until you’ve tried it!

We love to make Chili Con Carne on a campfire as it ads a magical touch to the meal, but you can of course also make it on a stove. The smell of the delicious ingredients mixed with togetherness and “hygge” is just otherworldly. You can’t go wrong with a delicious and heartwarming Chili Con Carne. This version is made so that both children and adults can enjoy it.

Recipe

You will need:

• 1 tsp. cumin
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 1 tsp. coriander
• 1/2 tsp. chilli flakes
• 350 g minced meat
• 3 tbsp. olive oil
• 3 tbsp. sun-dried tomatoes,
• 2 onions finely chopped
• 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
• 1 can of chopped tomatoes
• 100 ml. meat broth
• 1 can (400 g) of kindney beans, rinsed and drained
• 1 can (400 g) of black beans, rinsed and drained
• 40 g dark chocolate
• Salt and black pepper

Tip!

For more power use freshly chopped chili or add a little cayenne pepper.

How to:

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan or pot.
  2. Add cumin, cinnamon, coriander, garlic and chilli and stir for a few minutes.
  3. Lower the heat to medium and add chopped onion. Cook until soft, about 5 minutes. 
  4. Increase the heat and add the minced meat. Cook until no longer pink and lightly seared. Remember to stir. 
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes and meat broth.
  6. Put on a lid and simmer for half an hour.
  7. Taste the sauce and add more chilli if necessary.
  8. Add beans and let them simmer for approx. 5 minutes.
  9. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in chocolate. Start with half of the portion and taste with the rest.
  10. Season with salt and pepper.
  11. Serve with crème fraiche, rice, nachos or a delicious bread.
