Surprise the kids with these nice and easy hot chocolate spoons.

The last couple of weeks have been quite cold here in Denmark. And it has been snowing! Not exactly Alexandra’s kind of weather, who loves a warm breeze and lot’s af sun. But after infinitely many days where sky and land seem to merge into one gray mass, it’s a welcoming change to see the land covered with fine white snow.

Of course the kids love it. So we have bulit snowmen and have had snowball fights until there where no more snow in the whole garden!!! Well, that explains roughly how much snow there were. Now there is only a thin layer of snow left that is neither enough for snowmen nor even a single snowball. But the cold is holding on and we never thought we would say this, but it’s actually nice and refreshing.

The best part of it, is when you get back inside and you light a fire in the stove, sit down and enjoy a large cup of hot chocolate.

These chocolate spoons require a little preparation but on the other hand, your cup of hot chocolate will have a taste that is both deeper and tastier than if you  had used cocoa powder. And they looks deliciously good too.

Should you have difficulty finding a larger tablespoons, you just make several regulary ones and take two spoons per cup of hot chocolate.
Remember to serve the chocolate spoons with lots of extra marshmallows and/or whipped cream. Yummy!!!

Recipe

You will need:

For the chocolate spoons:
• 4 big spoons or just 8 regulary
• 100g dark or milk chokolate chokolate (we used Lindt Excellence 70% and Lindt Excellence Milk 65% )

For decoration:
• Dark, milk and white chocolate
• Mini marshmallows
• Chopped chocolate
• Sprinkles
•  Sea Salt
For serving:
• 1 l Milk
• Whipped cream
• Marshmallows

How to:

  1. Melt the chocolate over a water bath or in the microwave.
  2. Place the shaft of the spoons up against an edge so that the spoon gets a more vertical angle, preventing the chocolate from draining out. Fill the spoons with chocolate.
  3. For chocolate patterns: Let the chocolate solidify completely. Use some leftovers from the chocolate or melt some extra.
  4. Fill a pipingbag with the melted chocolate and pipe a pattern on your chocolate spoons.
  5. For sprinkles etc.: Leave the chocolate spoons to stiff a little before you add sprinkles, mini marshmallows, chopped chokolate etc.
  6. For the hot chocolate: Heat the milk and devide it between 4 cups.  Put a spoon (or two) in each cup and let the chocolate slowly melt in the warm milk. Stir well before drinking it.
  7. Add whipped cream or marshmallows.
