Have you baked a Gingerbread House yet? Or do you think it’s too cumbersome and time consuming? Of course, you can always buy one of IKEA’s “pre baked – ready to assemble gingerbread houses”, but we have another idea… Why not make a Gingerbread Cookie Wreath? It’s just as decorative and smells just as good as a classic Gingerbread House. And it’s so much easier to make a Gingerbread Cookie Wreath, than to make a Gingerbread House.
When making the stars for the Gingerbread Cookie Wreath, you can just as well make some extra stars or hearts that can be used as Christmas ornaments on the Christmas tree. See how in the latest issue of SEASONS.
Recipe
You will need:
• A piece of cardboard
• 1 large plate + one smaller plate
• A pair of scissors
• 1 pen
• Ribbon / string
• 1 pkt. ready to bake gingerbread dough (or homemade)
• Gingerbread cookie cutters – stars in different sizes
Icing:
• 4 dl / 200 g powdered sugar
• 1 egg white
• 1-2 teaspoons vinegar
Caramel “Glue”:
• 1 dl / 90 g sugar
How to:
- Draw a large circle on the cardboard using the large plate.
- Draw a smaller circle inside using the small plate. Cut it out. This will be the “body” of the wreath.
- Bake about 40 gingerbread stars in different sizes. Let cool.
- Mix all the ingredients for the icing until smooth.
- Decorate the gingerbread cookies.
- Melt the sugar in a saucepan until you have a brown caramel.
- Glue the stars onto the cardboard using the caramel.
- Tie a pretty ribbon at the top of the wreath and hang it in a window or some other decorative place.
