Here comes the last recipe in our little miniseries with oranges – our Homemade Orange Marmalade.
Is there anything better than freshly baked bread, smeared with butter that melts into the warm bread and then topped with homemade marmelade? No, we don’t think so! We simply love it. In fact, we love it so much that it is always to be found on our breakfast table on weekends. Of course, both bread and jam type can vary.
One of our favorites, when it comes to marmalade, is this homemade one with oranges and lemons (our kids would probably prefer a sweeter marmelade with strawberries or raspberries). It is super easy to make, but notice that it requires to stand in the fridge for 24 hours so that it has time to set completely. Also remember to use organic citrus fruits to avoid pesticides, as both peel and pulp are to be used.
If you make it now, it will bee ready for the weekend… Enjoy!
Ps. If you missed out on our other two favorite recipes with oranges you can find them here and here…
Recipe
You will need:
• 4 oranges, organic
• 2 lemons, organic
• 2 dl of water
• 4 dl cane sugar
How to:
- Rinse and peel the citrus fruits. Remember to keep a little bit of the white innerpart (the pith) as this is where the pectin is, which will help your marmalade to get that jelly consistency.
- Cut the zest into thin strips.
- Cut the fruit into small pieces and add it together with the zest in a saucepan.
- Add the water. Let boil for 20 minutes.
- Add the sugar and cook for 40 minutes.
- Store on cleaned, sterilised jars.
- Leave for min. 24 hours in the refridgerator to allow the marmalade to set.
Tip!
Easy sterilise your jars: Wash your jars and lids with hot water and washing-up liquid. Preheat the oven to 150C/300F. Let the jars dry in the oven for 10-15 min. Add your marmalade into the jars directly after taking them out from the oven.
