Did you know that the idea of celebrating Mother’s Day dates back to 1872? A woman named Julia Ward Howe from The United States, came up with the idea of a day dedicated to honoring mothers. Julia was an American author and advocate for women’s right to vote.

However, Julia’s idea of Mother’s Day never really took hold until her own daughter, Anna, started working to get the day honored by mothers. Her project succeeded, and up through the 20th century, the concept spread to the rest of the United States.

Since then, Mother’s Day has spread to the rest of the world – but it’s not celebrated on the same day everywhere. For instance, here in Denmark we also celebrate it on the second sunday in may, but in Sweden it’s the last sunday in May and in Norway it’s celebrated on the second sunday in February. Slightly confusing if you ask us…

No matter when Mother’s Day is celebrated, it’s a great occasion to pay tribute to your mother, grandmother, sister or wife. It means the world to get a “little thank you” for all that we do every single day without questioning it. Namely, to put the needs of our children before our own and to love them unconditionally.

For this Morther’s Day we have teamed up with Mapiful where you’ll get 50% off your second print. Their super cool posters are printed on great quality paper and we love the way you can customize them yourself in text, colors and fonts. For Rosa’s Mother’s Day poster (image above) she chose the Star Map print, but their Street Map and Zodiac prints are also really lovely. Check them out and see all the endless ways you can make your own personal poster.
